Top 5 Uluwatu restaurants

As Uluwatu’s restaurants revel in their continuing luxurious metamorphoses, a clique of renowned international chefs have set up shop within Bali’s beautiful pocket, bringing with them fresh ideas and an uplifting standard. The result — wonderful, delectable and taste-bud-satisfying food that continues to drive holidaymakers to this stunning region.

From the best in local cuisine to fantastical fusions, Uluwatu boasts some of Bali’s best restaurants and they’re all at your fingertips.

The Pool Lounge at
The Ungasan Clifftop Resort

Located within one of the top resorts in Uluwatu, The Pool Lounge has food to match its opulent surrounds. Perched atop the clifftops and overlooking the 25-metre infinity pool, discover food that has been expertly prepared by high-end chefs. Here, Indonesian fusion is perfectly intertwined with international quality, brilliantly brought to the plate by Executive Chef Josh Tyler.

The culinary magic you’ll experience at The Pool Lounge is the culmination of years of dedication and passion. F&B Director Daniel Whitelaw has over 20 years of experience at luxury dining institutions such as the Savoy in London and the Tetsuya in Sydney. Meanwhile, chef Josh is recognisable from his TV appearance on River Cottage Australia and his very own restaurants, Tyler’s Kitchen and Tyler’s Pantry, for which he earned a Chef’s Hat from the highly-regarded Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide.

With this incredible team, compounded by six-star quality service, your experience at The Pool Lounge is a rare one not to be missed.

One of the biggest showstoppers at this indulgent location is the bread. Given the humidity experienced in Uluwatu, it’s remarkably hard to deliver the perfect loaf, but chef Josh has managed to achieve flawless sourdough bread that’s crunchy on the outside and warm on the inside.

Of course, this is just for starters, and the food only gets better from there. Whether you’re after perfectly cooked fish, meat, or locally sourced vegetables, you’ll find cuisine that has been individually treated and cooked to the finest detail with a unique Balinese twist.

If you’re in the mood to share, indulge in the BBQ baby snapper, the lamb shoulder that falls off the bone, or the showstopping seafood platter. This generous serving features the best of what the Indian Ocean has to offer. The Two slipper bugs, six Jimbaran prawns, 12 oysters, blue lobster, mud crab accompanied by tatare and maria rose sauce are certain to satisfy any hungry stomach and delight all the senses.

You can round off the evening with a perfectly concocted cocktail as you stare out over the bay, or take the short walk down to Sundays Beach Club to continue the night in style on the sensational private seafront.

Mana Uluwatu Restaurant & Bar

With its sensational views over the glistening Indian Ocean and food to match, this really is one of the best restaurants Uluwatu has to offer.

Tucked into the verdant jungle and set high above the jagged cliffs towering over Uluwatu’s world-renowned waves, Mana truly delivers an outstanding setting. But there are plenty of wonderful vistas in south-western Bali — what keeps people coming back to Mana is the cuisine.

The menu is simple, yet effortlessly effective. In true surfer style, the food is all about wholesome, nourishing bites from both land and sea. The tacos are the stand-out dishes here and typify this restaurant’s philosophy — where the finer details make all the difference to your culinary experience.

Choose between crispy pork belly with chipotle bbq and fresh guacamole, or beer-battered Baja shrimp with green papaya slaw. Seared blackened tuna, tempeh manis, Balinese chorizo, pulled duck — you really are spoilt for choice as your food order grows full of these deliciously soft and fresh tacos.

As well as full plates including exotic Spanish mackerel and jackfruit enchiladas, you’ll feel the need to make room for the refreshing desserts. Indulge in the semifreddo and the trio brûlée or share a cooling gelato as you sit back satisfied, looking out over the glistening moonlit sea.

Filini Restaurant

Bringing the best Italian flavours to Uluwatu, Filini Bar & Restaurant immediately hooks you with a sense of calm opulence as soon as you walk through the doors.

Emanating an essence of contemporary Euro rustic, the interior greets you with immediate appeal and a distinctive atmosphere. The open and exposed kitchen really stands out in this space, producing a sense of openness and authenticity. You can also enjoy a memorable outdoor evening amongst the ambient light of a stunning water fire fountain on the gorgeous garden terrace.

Carefully selected for culinary delight, the menu comprises of the best ingredients from around Italy and its sun-kissed regions. The masterful chefs have created a menu of style and simplicity, intertwining their knowledge with local flair to create food intrigues and delights.

The delicious Filini Pizza consisting of white sauce, Taleggio cheese, roasted garlic, thyme and mixed mushroom is a must-try, while the glorious Italian flaming grill throws up perfectly cooked meat and fish. The Barramundi is a speciality here and is deliciously accentuated by the accompanying tomato broth, prawns, mussels, squid, cherry tomatoes, dill and red onion. But, if it’s a perfectly cooked steak you’re after, the Tagliata is a grilled grain-fed Angus ribeye waiting to delight your palate.

In a genre of cuisine that is so often gotten wrong, Fillini’s philosophy is all about getting it right — and there’s no doubt this restaurant has achieved the perfect contemporary twist on the humble Italian restaurant.

The Warung at Alila Villas

Another of Uluwatu’s stunning ocean-view resorts, Alila Villas, features an equally beautiful signature restaurant. But it’s not just the gorgeous surrounds that causes a stir at The Warung, it serves up some of the most decadent Indonesian and Balinese cuisine in the region.

The Warung offers a journey into Uluwatu’s rich variety of exotic flavours, exquisitely crafted for even the most fastidious of palettes. The vast number of perfectly cooked meat, fish and vegetarian dishes keeps people coming back for more.

The Warung presents a variety of set menus, specifically chosen to delight the senses. The first, entitled ‘Megibung’, is a truly traditional Balinese experience where visitors can share an offering designed to strengthen social ties. Then there’s ‘Nasi Tumpeng’ — a sensational array of local food surrounding a captivating cone-shaped serving of rice. Nasi Padang is a more bountiful and varied selection of food, while Nasi Manado is a classic sharing platter designed for pure enjoyment with friends or family.

Every dish is perfectly light and flavoursome, but by the end of your culinary journey at The Warung, you certainly won’t be clamouring for dessert. Instead, sip some of the finest wine as the sun sets over the violet Indonesian sky.

Sake no Hana

Opening its doors in February 2018 having made its name in Mayfair, London, Sake no Hana has quickly become a mainstay in Uluwatu’s fine-dining scene.

From the bustling streets of the English capital, this renowned establishment makes its new home within an open-air wooden lattice frame designed by award-winning architects Rockwell Group and WOHA and perches perfectly above the Indian Ocean.

Choose between two peerless settings — the Mezzanine level provides diners with panoramic ocean views through the wood-crafted open-air cage whilst the Grand Staircase below offers an alternative, more relaxed environment atop the limestone plateau.

These serene settings are just the start of your culinary journey. Sake no Hana’s menu has been created according to the principle of ‘shun’ – the moment of perfection when everything is at its peak. Revel in this philosophy and discover a truly unique dining experience where everything is plucked, picked, pickled, prepared and presented at just the right time.

Indulgences at Sake no Hana include a selection of premium seafood, meats and vegetables subtly seasoned and cooked to smoky perfection. View a range of different preparation methods, from charcoal grill to toban style meals produced in a ceramic skillet and served at the table to share. Beautifully complementing the culinary delights are premium sakes, handcrafted cocktails, and fine wines from around the world.

Once the meal is over, the exclusive Cliff Bar, part of the OMNIA Dayclub, makes for the ultimate insider experience with entrance limited to Sake no Hana diners and the lucky few who make the guest list.
